Apple Unveils Vision Pro Headset: A Paradigm Shift from Metaverse to Spatial Computing
Anticipation for Apple’s new product is so heightened that other companies are scrambling to position their wares ahead of next week. Earlier this week, PC maker Lenovo said its enterprise-focused ThinkReality VRX headset is now shipping, at $1,299. Magic Leap, which has been working on augmented reality technology since 2010 and holds thousands of patents around optical technology and AR/VR manufacturing processes, has been meeting with press to demonstrate its Magic Leap 2 headset. The headset is thinner and lighter, with improved optics, than its predecessor, the Magic Leap One; like the Lenovo headset, it’s aimed squarely at enterprise customers.
pple’s marketing strategy emphasizes “spatial” and “spatial computing” instead of “metaverse,” “augmented reality,” and “virtual reality.” They’re focusing on spatial experiences and computing.
“Creating our first spatial computer required invention across nearly every facet of the system,” said Mike Rockwell, Apple’s vice president of technology development.
“Through tight hardware and software integration, we designed a standalone spatial computer in a compact wearable form factor that is the most advanced personal electronics device ever,” he said.
